How to Care for Your Wool Rug
The rugs you purchase from us are handcrafted investments meant to last for many years. With proper care, they will continue to bring warmth, color, and authenticity to your home. Below are a few simple tips to help you keep your wool rug in perfect condition.
1. Regular Maintenance
Wool is a natural material that helps maintain a healthy atmosphere in your home. Thanks to its natural lanolin content, it is resistant to dirt and stains. Regular vacuuming will help your rug stay clean and soft.
2. Wool Dusting – A Natural Process
In the first few months, your rug may release small wool fibers — this process is called “wool dusting.” It’s completely natural for hand-tufted wool rugs. Vacuum your rug regularly using only the suction attachment (no rotating brushes) to gently remove the loose fibers.
Note: Wool dusting is not considered a defect unless it causes visible bald spots on the rug.
3. Stray Fibers
If you notice a few loose fibers sticking out, do not pull them out. Instead, trim them carefully with scissors. This is a normal feature of handmade tufted rugs and not a flaw.
4. Cleaning Tips
- Always use cool water when cleaning wool to prevent shrinkage.
- The best method for tufted rugs is steam cleaning, as it is both gentle and effective.
- For heavy soiling, have your rug professionally cleaned once every two years with wool-safe products.
- Avoid deep cleaning methods, which can permanently damage the rug.
- In case of spills or flooding, dry the area immediately, then clean gently with mild soap and cold water.
- Do not use oxygen-based or bleach-based cleaners on wool.
5. Sunlight Protection
To preserve your rug’s beautiful colors, avoid direct sunlight for long periods. Continuous exposure to sunlight may cause fading over time.
